Introducing the newest member of the MeLCat team: Mittens, the MeLCat mascot!

This summer, Mittens will travel through RIDES to help the MeLCat libraries celebrate the 20th Anniversary of MeLCat.

Begin planning to take some photos of Mittens at your library. Be creative! Use the adventures of Flat Stanley and the Elf on the Shelf as inspiration. Instructions will be included. Some suggested activities with Mittens:

  • Assist with MeLCat and RIDES processing
  • Pose Mittens with unique features, statues, or artwork at your library
  • Attend story time or other library programming

Use the hashtag #MittensLovesMeLCat to post about Mittens’ visit to your library’s social media, website, etc.

Mittens has a lot of libraries to visit, so send Mittens to the next library on the list within a couple of days. If you don’t have time when Mittens arrives, leave your library listed to route Mittens back to you. Feel free to share your photos, posts, or links via the MeLCat listserv. If you’d like to print your own Mittens, the files are available on MeL.org under the MeL Promotions Toolkit, along with the MeLCat 20th Anniversary logo.

Contact melcathelp@mcls.org if you have any questions.

The MeL project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library of Michigan.
