Statement of Concern:
There were several words in the Board policy manual that resonate with my vision for MCLS and its role in our states: “collective,” “future,” “proactive” and “long-term.” I believe that MCLS should work toward:
*brokering greater conversation and collaboration between libraries in the academic, public and special sectors in our two states and broader region, both independent of and connected to state and national association efforts
*increasing shared print and e-collection management strategies within and between states, removing barriers in the way of truly consistent and seamless access to fewer copies of especially low-use, widely-held materials for users throughout and beyond Indiana and Michigan
*brokering shared and/or collaborative approaches to selecting and implementing systems such as discovery and next-generation ILS replacements
*leveraging MCLS’ and other collaboratives’ power to influence vendors to deliver high-quality 21st century shared/union catalog, resource sharing and other system products more responsively, rapidly, and consistently
*and fostering statewide, MCLS-wide and regional efforts to influence scholarly communication toward open access and other emerging directions that help our libraries offer the most content to the most people for the most reasonable price we can achieve

  • Head, Web and Digitization Services and Head, Bibliographic and Metadata Services, University of Nevada Las Vegas, 1999-2006

Statement of Concern:
I have been involved and published about the importance of mega-collaboration and mega-cooperation between libraries, consortia, and regional consortia in order for libraries to stay viable and to move forward in this new digital environment. As an active board member of the Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI) since 2011, and my previous experience within the University of California system, I see this position as an opportunity to broaden and engage MCLS and ALI on a more active basis in the issues confronting academic libraries today.

Currently, director of Hamilton East Public Library serving approx. 140,000 people in Fishers and Noblesville, Indiana, with an $8M budget. Former director of Plainfield-Guilford Twp Public Library in Plainfield, Indiana, serving approx. 28,000 people with a $2M budget,

Awards & Honors:

  • IPLA Board member, 2008-present; Board President 2016
  • Indiana Library Federation Board member 2016-present
  • Member of ALA, PLA, ILF

Statement of Concern:
MCLS currently offers a unique service to the libraries in Indiana and Michigan with the variety of educational opportunities and group discounts it makes available. In my opinion, one of the under-appreciated strengths of MCLS is the variety of interests and experiences of librarians across the two states. It’s easy to become insular inside one or the other, but having more than one set of concerns at the state level broadens the experience of everyone involved. I have noticed over the past couple of years an increased level of cooperation between different library support systems here in Indiana (MCLS, State Library, ILF) and I would love to be a part of continuing and deepening those connections.

Special Library Representative (Michigan)
Alison M. Greenlee, Librarian, Benson Ford Research Center, The Henry Ford

  • BA in German and International Studies, Wayne State University (2006)
  • MS in Library and Information Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2009)

Work Experience:

  • Librarian, The Henry Ford (2014-present)
  • Collections Specialist, The Henry Ford (2013-2014)
  • Special Collections Librarian, University of Tulsa (2010-2013)
  • Project Manager for the Detroit Area Library Network (2014-present)
  • served as member of The Big Read Dearborn committee (2015-2016)

Awards & Honors:

  • Universal Short Title Catalogue project intern (2013)
  • ALISE Best Conference Paper Award (2011)
  • Rare Books and Manuscripts Section Preconference Scholarship (2010)
  • Phi Beta Kappa Society (2006)
  • Delta Phi Alpha German Honorary Society (2006)
  • Concordia Scholarship for Study Abroad (2004)
  • Uwe K. Faulhaber Scholarship (2004)
  • Dean’s list eight consecutive semesters (2002-2006)
  • Full tuition Presidential Scholarship at Wayne State University (2002)

Statement of Concern:
With Libraries Read: 1 Book and the MCLS Twitter chats, I’ve been able to engage with librarians and staff from a variety of institutions, exchanging ideas and learning from multiple viewpoints. As we look toward the future, I see MCLS offering more virtual opportunities for discussion and training; including other metadata schema in the available workshops; and expanding the shared print initiative as more libraries need to prioritize their print collections and provide space for their communities. MCLS will continue to be a reliable partner for libraries in Indiana and Michigan, advocating with vendors on our behalf.
