After nearly 30 years of service to the library community, MCLS Member Services Manager Diana Mitchell is moving on to the next phase of her life. Read the "goodbye note" she penned for us all.

The Brownsburg Public Library in Brownsburg, Indiana and the Delta Township District Library in Lansing, Michigan have been paired up to participate in the pilot project “Library Match.” Each month we will highlight one of the peer matches participating in the project. Knox County, Indiana Public Library Director Emily Bunyan, MCLS Community Engagement Librarian Michelle Bradley, and MCLS Executive Director Randy Dykhuis, made their way around the state of Indiana this spring, presenting on “Turning Outward for Deep Community Engagement.” They went to Richmond, Williamsport, Kendallville, New Harmony and Carmel discussing how they have used the “Libraries Transforming Communities” initiative of ALA, based on the work of the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation to engage more deeply with their communities.

The MCLS Nominating & Leadership Development Committee seeks nominations from the membership for the following openings on the MCLS Board of Directors:
Each seat has a three-year term, beginning January 1, 2016 and expiring December 31, 2018. The Board meets 4 times a year, in February, May, August, and November, and Board meetings alternate between Michigan and Indiana. The November meeting includes a two-day strategy retreat to review activity of the previous year, assess trends, and determine strategic changes to MCLS’s services. Newly elected Board members are asked to attend the annual retreat. MCLS reimburses Board members for all direct meeting expenses. Deadline for submission of names is 5:00 p.m. on July 10, 2015. There are still plenty of spots left to attend one of seven meetings around the state. In July, MCLS and the Library of Michigan will be coming to a location near you to share information about recent developments/projects in Michigan’s library community, including a half-day session devoted to all things MeLCat and RIDES. Regional meetings in Indiana will take place in the fall.

There are many ways you can participate in a discussion about “Contagious: Why Things Catch On” by Jonah Berger. Throughout June and July, participate in live Twitter chats, Google Hangouts, free in-person discussions and a “Crafting Contagious” workshop worth 2 LEUs for those who need them. For MCLS members who are interested in learning more about Linked Data and the new BIBFRAME environment, Zepheira is offering us a discounted online training curriculum commencing June 17 through July 29, 2015. Practical Practitioner Linked Data and BIBFRAME Essentials is a self-paced online course. Each participant should expect to commit ten to twelve hours of effort. There will be live (and recorded) office hours sessions with classmates and Zepheira team members. Following the training, each participant is automatically enrolled into the Alumni group for continued access to existing and future content, evolving tool suite, bi-monthly meetings, networking events at major conferences and on-going collaboration.
