A "spirited" ILF pre-conference

If your library wants to bring in new audiences, promote local tourism, or provide educational and cultural opportunities that would include wine, beer or other spirits, this workshop, "Wine tasting, beer making and literary pub crawls: Holding spirited events at your library," is for you. On November 16, from 9am to 12pm, attendees will learn how to convince the board, comply with state laws, get proper licensing, and keep it legal! Jeannette Merritt, Purdue Wine Grape Team, will even lead you through an educational wine tasting experience.

Save the dates for "Media boot camp: Interviewing skills"

As a follow-up to our Media Coaching workshops, we invite you to participate in "Media boot camp: Interviewing skills." We will review some of the basic tips for being interviewed by the media, and then attendees will participate in multiple interview scenarios. Interviews will be played back and constructively critiqued by your peers. Never say "no comment" again! It's fun, it's safe, and it's friendly to practice with your colleagues. Join us in Lansing, Michigan on December 1, or Lafayette, Indiana on December 3.

MeL/MeLCat server migration

In December, the six MeL/MeLCat servers will be moving to a new hosting center. This move will affect both MeLCat and the MeL Databases.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, November 18, MeLCat requesting will be suspended for all users. On Wednesday, December 2, all MeLCat activity will cease for the transition. All services will be restored by Friday, December 11.

The MeL team has been busy preparing for the temporary shut down to ensure library staff and patrons have all the information that is needed. In addition to the basics, the library staff FAQ includes links to a recorded webinar for staff, a press release template, and downloadable flyer and bookmark templates. The patron FAQ links may be added to your library website. Additional resources will be posted as they are developed.

Contact the MeL team with any questions or concerns about the server migration.

Library updates

All MeLCat libraries should review the participating libraries list new-window-icon.png to verify that the information listed is correct for their library. Any changes or corrections should be reported to the MeL team

MeLCat Pickup Elsewhere

The MeL team is still looking for a few volunteer libraries to help test Pickup Elsewhere. This optional service will allow patrons to have items delivered to any participating Pickup Elsewhere location within the MeLCat system. Contact the MeL team if you are interested in helping out with testing.

Any questions should be sent to melcathelp@mcls.org.

The MeL project is funded by the Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) via the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the Library of Michigan, part of the Michigan Department of Education. Additional funding is provided by the State of Michigan.
