Featured classes

Reference triage for paraprofessionals, January 22 (online)

Let's face it - libraries are often short-staffed. Increasingly paraprofessionals, library assistants, and student workers are called to staff the reference and information desks. Librarians are armed with explicit training to manage specific questions and scenarios where other workers are frequently left to fend for themselves. This two-hour reference boot camp focuses on conducting a proper reference interview; the difference between reference and research; how not to give advice while supplying information and when to punt the question to the librarians.

Writing for the web for libraries, February 4 (online)

Is your library's website written in language for the online world? Learn how writing appropriately for the web will make for a better user experience for patrons, and help staff more easily manage content.

Upcoming programs in Indiana

Media coaching for librarians, March 6

Librarians need the skills to deliver a clear, consistent message to educate their constituents on the value of libraries, and, in moments of crisis, to effectively present themselves as community leaders. Public relations and media relations professional, Rick Hightower, will conduct an informative and interactive workshop on media coaching, as well as moderate a panel of news reporters from different media backgrounds, on what the reporters really want. Watch for more announcements as the date draws nearer.

New tech: Connecting librarians with The Edge Initiative, May 21

This class will discuss using The Edge Initiative to create dynamic programming for community using new and emergent technology. Watch for more announcements as the details are finalized.
