33 Michigan libraries have been selected by the Library of Michigan and MCLS to participate in a Harwood Public Innovation training program. The cohort is made up of different library types from across the state. The training will include both in-person and remote components and run through the end of 2016.
Nine school libraries in Indiana have been awarded a $500 collection development mini-grant, made available to MCLS member libraries through a grant program established by the MCLS Board of Trustees from the proceeds of the sale of the former INCOLSA building in Indiana.
According to MCLS Executive Director, Randy Dykhuis, “School libraries are vital to student success, yet many of them do not have enough funds to purchase new materials to support the curriculum, keep up with new formats, and support the love of reading. We are happy to be able to contribute to the important work of school libraries through this grant program.”
MCLS and the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington, IN will be hosting a community engagement roundtable March 2 from 10 am to Noon Eastern. Join us for this free opportunity to support one another in your community engagement efforts.
Save the date for a similar opportunity at the Saginaw Public Library in Saginaw, MI on June 14 from 10 am to Noon Eastern.
MCLS will host a live Twitter chat series at #MCLSchat with special guests who are veterans in the field of library management. These one-hour Twitter chats will provide opportunities to get expert advice from your veteran peers in the library management field without leaving your desk (or your smart phone). MCLS will interview the experts on topics including hiring, delegating, difficult conversations and project management.
Join us every Thursday in February from 2pm to 3pm Eastern (1pm to 2pm Central).
Indiana library staff are invited to attend one of five Community Conversations to be held in the southern portion of the state in the month of March. The purpose of these conversations is to gather information about the needs of the Indiana library community and to explore your hopes, concerns and aspirations. We will conduct another round of Community Conversations in the northern part of the state in August. Additional Community Conversations will be coming to Michigan in 2016, with dates to be announced.
