MCLS announces "Libraries Read: 1 Book"

The book covers of the the 4 book choices for 1 book - Contagious, The Gen Z effect, Library 2020, David and Goliath

MCLS invites library staff of all types in Indiana and Michigan to participate in an exciting upcoming professional development opportunity. We will join together both physically and virtually to read and discuss the same book. With your help, we will select a book that is relevant to our profession, provides thought-provoking ideas for discussion, and has appeal across all types of libraries. Vote for one of four books on our “Libraries Read: 1 Book” Facebook event page.  Voting will remain open until April 4, 2015. To kick off National Library Week, the selected title will be announced on April 13, 2015.  Discussions and other events related to the title will take place throughout the spring and summer of 2015.

Indiana and Michigan Movers and Shakers

Congratulations to the University of Michigan's MakerBridge Coordinator Sharona Ginsberg, and Rossville Consolidated School's Library and Instruction Technology Specialist Sherry Gick, for both being recognized as Library Journal 2015 Movers and Shakers.

Michigan regional meetings and MeLCat Symposium coming soon to a location near you

In the month of July MCLS and the Library of Michigan will be on a road trip around the state to share information and have a conversation with you about what is happening in the Michigan library community. The MeLCat team will be on hand to listen to your comments, answer your questions, and bring folks together to talk about MeLCat. These events are free and all staff are welcome. Space is limited, so learn more and register now.

Indiana Library Federation District Conferences presentation “Turning outward: Creating deep community engagement”

At several of the ILF District Conferences in April and May 2015, Emily Bunyan, Director, Knox County Public Library and Randy Dykhuis, Executive Director, MCLS will present on their community engagement work and training with the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation. Read more about the District Conference presentations.

Registration open: Great Lakes Science Boot Camp June 3-5, 2015

This immersive 2½ day conference offers librarians an opportunity to learn about current research advancements in science. It will explore key concepts and research in Great Lakes Aquatic Ecosystems, Genomics and Medical Chemistry. The Great Lakes Science Boot Camp will strive to cultivate an ongoing learning community of academic and medical librarians dedicated to providing research support to faculty and graduate students.

MCLS User Experience Librarian, Elaine Meyer presenting at 2015 Computers in Libraries

We are excited to announce that Elaine Meyer, User Experience Librarian at MCLS, will be presenting "Web redesign for better UX" at Computers in Libraries this spring. Get tips for redesigning your library's website as well as a firm understanding of what goes into it - from initial planning, staffing, research, development, launch, post-launch and everything in between. Her talk is scheduled for 11:45-12:30pm, Monday April 27.

Three new MeLCat libraries

Welcome to the latest MeLCat libraries, Fairgrove District Library, Harrison Township Public Library, and Notre Dame Prep Marist Academy.  All three libraries are now sharing resources with libraries around the state.
