The new Michigan Electronic Library (MeL) expands service

A partnership between Innovative (iii) and EBSCO Discovery Service facilitated the harvesting of metadata from MeL's digital collections and integrated that information with full-text articles and eBooks. Hear from colleagues leading transformation at the MCLS Annual Meeting

Following the keynote from former ALA President Maureen Sullivan, a panel of library leaders from both Indiana and Michigan will discuss how they are engaging and transforming their communities. The panel includes:

  • Emily Bunyan – Director of the Knox County Public Library in Vincennes, Indiana
  • Corey Seeman – Director of the Kresge Business Administration Library at the University of Michigan
  • Christina C. Wray – Librarian at the Center for Disability Information and Referral within the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University-Bloomington

Save the date November 6: Media coaching for librarians program announced

On November 6, 2014, the Cooperative Directors Association, the Library of Michigan and the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) will provide a program instructing and preparing librarians on interacting with the media. Media consultant Robert Kolt, of Kolt Communications, and Michigan Radio's senior political analyst Jack Lessenberry will present. More information is available at the MCLS blog. Details on registration will be available soon.

RIDES statistics

733 Michigan library sites participate in RIDES for interlibrary lending, moving about 15,000 items a day throughout the state. 92% of those sites are MeLCat libraries, and 29% participate as No Pack libraries.
