New York Times: News Access

The New York Times, published in New York City since 1851, is the largest metropolitan newspaper in the United States. The Times has long been an important source of reporting, information, and opinion, on politics, finance, health, science, culture, the arts, sports, and fashion in the U.S. and abroad, with special emphasis on international news and the New York metropolitan area.  The online version of the times, at www.nytimes.com, activated on January 19, 1996, includes not only the same articles, features and images that appear in the print edition, but a wealth of additional still image, video, audio, graphics, and database content.  It also includes much of the content of the print edition prior to 1996, as well as the International New York Times, and Spanish and mandarin Chinese editions.  Much of the site content is now behind a pay wall, with access limited to subscribers.  In 2013 The Times publishers introduced an “Academic Site License” to www.nytimes.com for educational institutions.  CRL negotiated the terms for subscription under the academic site license for CRL member libraries.  Similar terms are also available to members of U.S. consortia affiliated with CRL.MCLS offers the New York Times Academic Site License through its affiliation with CRL.
