Library love is in the air

February is all about library love—it’s Library Lovers’ Month, and Valentine’s Day.

The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library in Kokomo, IN is asking their patrons to go on a “Blind Date with a Book” for Valentine’s Day for their chance to win a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Teens and adults can stop by any Kokomo-Howard County Public Library location or bookmobile and find a “Blind Date with a Book” display. They have randomly selected books off their shelves and wrapped them. All that’s on the cover is the barcode so patrons can check out the book with their library card and a sticker that explains how Blind Date with a Book works. They will not know which book they are checking out. Maybe they will pick up a mystery. Or a Western. The librarians have selected titles from every genre and from a variety of authors.

Here’s what patrons do after they select and check out a book:

  • Remove and discard the wrapper and read the book.
  • Look for a form inside. There is one in each book.
  • After they have read the book, they fill out the form to tell the library about the book. Patrons are asked: “Did you find a love connection? Did the date end early for some reason? Did something unexpected happen? We want to hear all about it!”
  • When they return the book, they place the entry form in the box marked “Blind Date with a Book”. They then have a chance to win a prize!
  • They can read more than one book and enter more than once.
