Anaheim Public Library
Adult Reference Web Page Development
Anaheim Public Library recently launched a new Teen website (www.anaheimteens.net) and is now looking for an Intern to provide expanded content within the existing website framework to improve our Adult Reference web pages.
Qualifications:
-Knowledge of basic XHTML and Content Management Systems is required.
-Knowledge of best practices, standards, issues, and current trends, relevant to web designing and information technology in libraries.
-Our ideal candidate will have had previous Adult Reference Desk experience (Internships are fine) and completed at least one Reference class.
Basic Job Duties:
-Research and compile electronic reference resources.
-Streamline clicks.
-Create information hierarchy.
-Improve website usability.

Burbank Public Library (BUR)
Branches
The Burbank Public Library is pleased to offer an opportunity for interns to work at two branch sites. Burbank's branches offer the full spectrum of library service, from reference to children's programming. Our intern will gain hands-on reference experience, both adult and children, using the library's Sirsi iBistro online catalog and other print and online resources. If interested, the intern may assist with children's programming and class visits and/or assist with implementing features on iBistro. To round off the experience, the student will be involved in collection development (using Baker & Taylor's TitleSource II software), inventory, and preparing booklists and pathfinders. If you are looking for an opportunity to get to know your patrons and to do a "little of everything", our branch experience is for you.

Literacy Services
The Burbank Public Library is pleased to offer an opportunity for interns to work in Literacy Services. Our intern will gain practical experience with outreach, recruiting, training, and support for our Adult Learners and Tutors. If you are looking for an introduction to basic literacy, Families for Literacy, or Limited English Proficiency, this is the library for you.

Reference Department
The Burbank Public Library is pleased to offer an opportunity for interns to work in its Central Library Reference Department. This is a dynamic, progressive department, providing telephone and one-on-one public contact, 6 days a week, to a diverse community. Our intern will gain practical reference experience utilizing both print and online resources. Customer service and the reference interview will be emphasized. The student will receive hands-on experience with our Sirsi iBistro online catalog and have an opportunity to assist with Internet instruction to patrons. To round off the experience, he/she will be involved in collection development (using Baker & Taylor's TitleSource II software), inventory, and preparing booklists and pathfinders. If you are looking for an introduction to public librarianship, with an active reference desk and an encouraging, motivating staff, this is the library for you.

Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library (MPK)
The FILL Intern will work with library staff at the Reference Desk. The duties of the Intern will include answering reference questions from the public in person, over the phone and via E-mail. Other duties include helping train the public to use the Internet and other online databases and helping weed the collection. The FILL Intern will assist in maintenance of the Federal Government Documents Collection, doing booktalks in the schools, helping plan programs for the public and working on the Teen Summer Reading Program. The FILL Intern will also have an orientation on Children’s, Technical Service, LAMP Literacy and Library Administration. The Reference Senior Librarian will supervise the Intern.

Oxnard Public Library (OXN)
Computer Curriculum
The Oxnard Public Library is pleased to offer an opportunity for interns to work with a Librarian to develop and implement a computer class curriculum to meet the Library goal of fostering computer literacy in the community. Interns will work in cooperation with a Librarian to design written materials and, as a part of a team, to present instructional courses to customers on use of computers, software, the Internet, and other electronic resources. Applicants will gain experience in development of programs and standards, providing public service, and knowledge of how libraries can meet the needs of customers through non-traditional services. Candidates should have a strong commitment to providing library service to a diverse population, have the ability to work creatively and positively with staff and the public; excellent organizational skills. Multi-lingual competence is highly desirable, especially the ability to communicate well in Spanish.

Reference and Branch Services
The Oxnard Public Library is pleased to offer an internship to a candidate interested in providing excellent customer service to a diverse community. Under the supervision of a Library Services Supervisor, interns will gain hands-on experience as an active member of the Information/Reference or Branch Services Divisions. Spending time in Adult, Children's, Literacy and/or Branch Services Units, interns will gain experience in collection development; participate in professional discussions, MCLS workshops and training sessions; assist on service desks, providing telephone, web-based and in-person reference assistance; provide bibliographic instruction to Library customers; and, assist with programming, including visits to schools. Multi-lingual competence is highly desirable, especially the ability to communicate well in Spanish. Special Collections/Local History
Working closely with the Local History librarian the intern will gain experience in preservation, indexing and cataloging of photographs and ephemera files as well as answering reference questions dealing with Oxnard history.

Thousand Oaks Library System (THO)
Fall 2009
Accepting 1 intern in either Special Collections, Technical Services, or Newbury Park Branch Library
Library Information Systems
The Library Information Systems Department has a full-time supervising librarian, 1 full-time systems librarian, and 1 full-time senior library assistant. The department is responsible for the integrated library system, the library’s website, library computer security and equipment, and the library’s local area network. An intern will have the opportunity to experience typical work duties of systems staff, as well as work on short-term projects related to the creation of digital content for the web and digital signage. Specific projects that an Intern might work on for this semester include assisting with creating digital content to promote the library’s electronic resources, and creating technology tutorials for staff training purposes.
Special Collections
The Special Collections Department has a full-time librarian and a full-time senior library assistant, both are Certified Archivists. Interns are given a processing project that can be either a single small collection, or a part of one of our larger collections. The intern will learn processing, including the basics of selection, preservation, and handling. The internship can be focused to the student’s main area of interest. Training will include completion of a finding aid and creation of a collection level record in MARC format. Interns experience a full range of work in the department, including acquisition of items, digitization of photographs, reference work, and reading room operations.
Newbury Park Branch Library
The Newbury Park Branch Library has a full-time supervising librarian, 1 full-time librarian, 2 part-time librarians, 1 full-time senior library assistant and 2 part-time senior library assistants. The Branch Library is responsible for reference services to people of all ages, readers’ advisory, collection development, programming, and service to schools and other community organizations. Staff works at the Information Desk approximately ½ of its time. An intern would be trained to be effectively involved in all professional aspects of the work at this neighborhood facility, with a particular emphasis on Children’s Services.
